Brother Burns was born at Maud, Ala., October 6, 1900. He first attended high school at Allsboro, Ala., and graduated from that high school. He next entered Freed-Hardeman College and remained there and graduated in 1926. Brother Burns worked during vacation in the Ford Motor Company, Detroit, Mich., to earn money to attend college. After graduating from Freed-Hardeman College, he attended Abilene Christian College, in Abilene, Texas; Harding College, Searcy, Ark.; and State Teachers College, Florence, Ala. He has taught In the public schools of Alabama.

Brother Burns became a Christian while living in Detroit, Mich., being baptized by J.W. Shepherd at the Vinewood Church, in Detroit. In September, 1934 he began regulare work with the Sherrod Avenue Church, in Florence, Ala., and remained with the church there five years. He is now engaged in full-time evangelistic work and daily preaching by radio over station WMSD, Sheffield, Ala. More than thirty congregations and many individuals are cooperating with Brother Burns in his radio and evangelistic work. He has established three new congregations in the immediate Muscle Shoals district. He lives at Florence.

Life and Work of C.C. Burns

Charles C. Burns was a gospel preacher. He was born in Maud, Alabama in 1930. He was baptized by J.W. Shepherd in Detroit, Michigan. He was married to Lena Cooke, and they had two children, Charles Cooke, and Jerry Wallace.

C.C. Burns received his education at Freed-Hardeman College, Harding College, Abilene Christian College, and State College, Florence, Alabama. He began his preaching career in his home town of Maud, Alabama. From 1934-1939 he preached for the Sherrod Avenue church in Florence, Alabama. Then, from 1939-1944 he preached for Highland Park church in Muscle Shoals. From 1944-1945 he preached for the Sixth Street church in Port Arthur, Texas. They moved back to Alabama in 1945 to preach for the Lincoln church. They were there two years when they moved to work with the Central church in Clarksburg, WV. He served there from 1947-1950 before moving to the Court Street Church in Flint, Michgan from 1950.

For several years he was involved in radio evangelism on WLAY, in Muscle Shoals. He generally did radio work any place he did his work. He retired in Florence, Alabama while attending the Sherrod Avenue church of Christ. He passed from this life the 28th of July, 2006 at the Huntsville Hospital after an extended illness. He was seventy-six years of age. He was buried in Florence at the Greeview Memorial Park.

Obituary for Charles C. Burns

Mr. Charles Cooke Burns, 76, of Florence, died Friday, July 28, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital, after an extended illness.

He was a native of Colbert County, ministered in the Church of Christ for 39 years, member of Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ and a manufacturer of Burns Craft Boats.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2006, at Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the church, with burial in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating will be David Sain.

Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his father, C.C. Burns, and his mother, Lena Burns.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Sanderson Burns, of Florence; two sons, Dr. Charles Randall Burns and wife, Delores, of Huntsville, and John Clark Burns and wife, Pam, of Muscle Shoals; daughter, Sandi Burns Elliott and husband, Keith, of Florence; brother, Jerry Wallace Burns and wife, Gloria, of Plano, Texas; niece, Julie (Patrick) Droesch, and nephew, Brian (Aimee) Burns, of Dallas, Texas area; grandchildren, John Burns Olive, of Orlando, Fla., Jacqueline Cyd Olive, of Florence, Pamela Rachel Burns, John Clark Burns Jr., Daniel Gregory Burns, all of Muscle Shoals, and Charles Randall Burns Jr., of Huntsville.

Pallbearers will be Rick Hamm, Royce Mask, Andrew Hall, Jimmy Potts, Ricky Knouff and Quin Ivy.

A special thanks to Huntsville Hospital CVICU nurses and doctors for so many kindnesses during Charles' illness. You were perfect.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Athens Bible School, 507 Hoffman St., Athens, AL 35611.

Charles C. Burns is buried in Greenview Memorial Gardens in north Florence, Alabama. It is located on Old Chisholm Hwy. The address is: 3657 Old Chisholm Road, Forest Hills, Lauderdale County, Alabama USA, 35633. Also buried in this cemetery is another preacher, T. Ralph Snell.
