Life of Charles C. Burns

Charles Cooke Burns was born in Sheffield, Alabama, May 9, 1930. He was baptized by his father, C.C. Burns May 19, 1940. Charles was married to Joyce Ann Sanderson March 22, 1951. They had three children, Randy, Sandy and John Clark.

Charles followed in his father's footstep as a preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He attended Freed-Hardeman College, David Lipscomb College, and later at Florence State College. He began preaching in Huntsville, Alabama in 1946. He served churches at Town Creek, Alabama; Sunnyside, Washington; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Clarksburg, West Virginia, Odessa, Texas, and for 39 years at the Sherrod Avenue church of Christ in Florence, Alabama.

Charles passed from this life July 28, 2006, and his remains were planted in the Greenview Memorial Gardens in Florence, Alabama.

Obituary for Charles C. Burns

Mr. Charles Cooke Burns, 76, of Florence, died Friday, July 28, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital, after an extended illness.

He was a native of Colbert County, ministered in the Church of Christ for 39 years, member of Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ and a manufacturer of Burns Craft Boats.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2006, at Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the church, with burial in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating will be David Sain.

Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his father, C.C. Burns, and his mother, Lena Burns.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Sanderson Burns, of Florence; two sons, Dr. Charles Randall Burns and wife, Delores, of Huntsville, and John Clark Burns and wife, Pam, of Muscle Shoals; daughter, Sandi Burns Elliott and husband, Keith, of Florence; brother, Jerry Wallace Burns and wife, Gloria, of Plano, Texas; niece, Julie (Patrick) Droesch, and nephew, Brian (Aimee) Burns, of Dallas, Texas area; grandchildren, John Burns Olive, of Orlando, Fla., Jacqueline Cyd Olive, of Florence, Pamela Rachel Burns, John Clark Burns Jr., Daniel Gregory Burns, all of Muscle Shoals, and Charles Randall Burns Jr., of Huntsville.

Pallbearers will be Rick Hamm, Royce Mask, Andrew Hall, Jimmy Potts, Ricky Knouff and Quin Ivy.

A special thanks to Huntsville Hospital CVICU nurses and doctors for so many kindnesses during Charles' illness. You were perfect.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Athens Bible School, 507 Hoffman St., Athens, AL 35611.
