Edd Holt—A Most Talented Man And A Conscientious Preacher
1906-1985
On June 25, 1985, Edd Holt went home to be with his Lord. He was a most talented man. His son-in-law, Fred Guy, said of him: "Brother Holt was very intelligent, very conscientious, and unusually diversified in talents, including music."
Edd Holt enjoyed working with his hands. He was skilled in working with wood, block, brick, and paint. He also set type for much of his writing, and in turn, printed his own works. He was very skillful in the painting of sermon charts.
During his years as a gospel preacher, he led in the construction of twenty church buildings. Two of those churches were in Montgomery-namely the Chisholm Church and the Carter Hill Road Church. He did much of the labor on those buildings, and especially in the areas that required skilled
Most of all, however, Edd Holt was an able, dedicated gospel preacher. He was amazingly gifted in the memorizing of scriptures, including book, chapter and verse. His lessons were well organized, clearly presented, and humbly submitted. He often presented his lesson by means of well organized charts.
Edd Holt was a good man. He preached his sermons from the base of conviction. He married Gladys Martin of Nacogdoches, Texas. During their early married life they could have no children, and they adopted a daughter, and later two daughters were born to their union.
The Holts moved to Montgomery so that they could teach at Alabama Christian College. He taught Bible and Math, and she taught Home Economics. After some years in the classroom, he gave up the work and spent his time in full preaching, by means of the pulpit, writing, and building churches. As for some of the churches which he served, the number included: Nacogdoches and Port Arthur, Texas; Chisholm, Union Springs, Fairfield, Highland, and Vernon of Alabama.
