Evangelist Joseph of Tampa, passed from this life Sunday, July 7, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 11th, at 1 pm at Highland Avenue Church of Christ, 2800 North Highland Avenue. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Evangelist Joseph Atkison, a longtime resident of Tampa, was born on Jan. 11, 1920 in Live Oak. He was born to the late Duckery and Katie (Broom) Atkison. He was educated in the Ware County School System. Joseph was baptized into Christ on Sept. 21, 1947. He was employed by both Goodyear and later, Airdrome Tire Company. He was a minister first at the Medulla Church of Christ and then the Preston Street Church of Christ, where he served for more than 20 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Jr.; and his grandson, Michael Jr. He is survived by a loving wife, Mercedes; his four daughters, Rosa Mary Miller, Mercedes (Robert) Cummings, Rosalyn (Joseph) Harrell & Gloria (Ronnie) Moorer; two sons, Andrew (Rogenia) Atkison and Michael (Jill) Wells; one sister, Ester Monroe; brother, Mitchell Atkison; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; host of nieces & nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joseph Atkison is buried in the Sunset Memory Gardens in Thonotosassa, Florida. Take I-75 to the E. Fowler Ave. Exit and head toward Thonotosassa. Turn right on Hwy. 301, and you will soon come up to Sunset Memory Gardens on your left. Enter the cemetery at the main entrance. Make your way to the rear of the cemetery. Check map and photos below to locate the grave. The location is the Garden of Honor, Section I, Row M, #35
