James C. Holloway
James Crawford Holloway was born in Petersburg, Pike County, Indiana, on August 30, 1854. He was the son of William Crawford Holloway (1824-1900) and Emily P. Jackson (1830-1890).
James was married three times. His first wife was Hattie Holmes Bruce (1854-1890), whom he married on April 18, 1878. They had one son, Harry Bruce Holloway (1879-1977). After Hattie died in 1890, he married his second wife, Mary E. Terrill (1868-1896), who he married on March 5, 1891. They had one son, William Henry Pratt Holloway (1894-1980). After Mary’s death, September 1, 1896, he was married to Arabella “Belle” Zink (1876-1961), on June 10, 1897. They had one son, Seward Zink Holloway (1901-1961).
James was a medical doctor and supported himself and his family through this profession. His primary focus was on preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He preached the gospel in Indiana, Illinois, and wherever the Lord opened a door.
He edited a Restoration Movement paper called “The Defender of The Word and the Eye Opener.” In 1886, he became a corresponding editor of The Review. (GA, 12.8.1886, p.778). He sent articles to the Gospel Advocate, The Christian Worker. He wrote Christian Tracts, such as “Our Distinctive Plea.” He was most “colorful” in his writings and sometimes raised eyebrows in wondering about his meanings. Mostly, he was known as a sound preacher of the gospel.
James C. Holloway passed from this life August 24, 1912 in a hospital in Chicago, Illinois. His body was sent back to Bruceville, Indiana for burial.
