Jesse Denton Hudelston

1925-1979

The Life of Jesse D. Hudelston

Jesse Denton Hudelston was born November 23, 1925. He was the son of Harmon Robert Hudelston (1904-1983) and Ina Belle Flatt (1908-1956). He was baptized in 1942. On March 5, 1955 he married Reba Francis Sliger (1933-1988). They had seven children, Jesse D., Jr., Rebecca and Robert (twins), Foress and Doris (twins), Carol, and Anna.

He was educsated at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee where he received the B.S. Degree. He then entered George Peabody College in Clarkesville, Tennessee where he attained to the level of M.A.

He began preaching in Mayland, Tennessee in 1957. From there he preached in Pleasant Hill, Tennessee from 1958 to 1962. While here he taught English at Tennessee Tech. Also, during this time he edited a paper called, The Lord's Way, published in Cookeville. Then, he preached for the Redland church of Christ in Valdosta, Georgia from 1962-1965. While there he taught school at Georgia Christian School in Dasher, Georgia. Then he preached at Paint Rock, Alabama from 1965 to 1966. While there he taught school at Madison Christian Academy in Huntsville, Alabama. Then, he preached in Monterey, Tennessee beginning in 1966.

His last years were spent in the Cookeville, Tennessee where he passed away on December 21, 1979. Burial followed in the Crest Lawn Cemetery.

Directions To Grave

The Hudelston family burial plot is in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Cookeville, Tennessee. The Funeral Home and cemetery are located on West Jackson Street. From I-40 take Exit 286 and head north on Hwy. 135. In about a mile turn left on W. Jackson St. The cemetery is on the left. Instead of entering the main entrance head up to Buffalo Valley Rd. and turn left. The cemetery will be on your left. Enter the first entrance and travel down the lane until you come to the mausoleum on the right. Stop here and head toward the mausoleum. Just before you come to it begin looking to your right where you will see the Hudelston family plot. While in the cemetery note a photo below where it is pointed out where several gospel preachers are buried in the park. See overview photo below.
