The Life Of Allen R. Kendrick
Allen Rose Kendrick was born July 27, 1849 in Alcorn County, Mississippi. He was the second son, and name-sake of Allen and Nancy Hughes Rose Kendrick. He was married to Corrina Anderson of Mississippi. To their union was born five children, four sons and one daughter: Nellie R., born November 9, 1879; Carroll, born September 21, 1881; Wilford Hall, born August 20, 1883; Joel Allen, born December 1, 1885; and Phillip Stuart, born February 3, 1890.
Allen grew up in family of very influential Christians. His father, Allen Kendrick, Sr., was a gospel preacher who learned the simple New Testament gospel under the influence of the Christian movement led by Barton W. Stone. His older brother Mansel, and younger brother Carroll were also gospel preachers. Under the preaching influence of the Kendrick family, literally thousands obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ.
According to the U.S. Censuses of 1850 and 1860, the Kendricks lived and evangelized in Hardin County. In the 1870 census he and his family had moved back to Alcorn County, Mississippi. Allen Rose Kendrick died August 7, 1902 and was buried in the Kendrick plot at the Oak Hill Christian Church cemetery.

Obituary Of Corinna Kendrick
Death is again in our midst, and this time takes from us our dear sister, Corinna, wife of Brother A. R. Kendrick. She died at one o’clock A. M., June 21, after ten days of intense suffering. Her death was a severe shock to us all, as we were not expecting it. We sorrow not as those without hope. Her firm trust in God’s word and cheerful disposition made home happy, and prepared her for every good work. She leaves many sad hearts, and five sprightly children for her husband to make ready for the happy meeting in the eternal home. Her only sister was called from Springfield, Missouri, but came too late to see her alive.

Directions To The Grave Of A.R. Kendrick
The Kendrick family burial plot is at the Old Oak Hill Christian Church cemetery in northern Alcorn County, Mississippi. From Tupelo, head north on Hwy. 45 through Corinth. Just before the Tennessee state line, turn right on Hwy. 2. Go about six or seven miles and turn left on Hwy. 142, known locally as Kendrick Road. Just over the Tennessee line, turn right on Co. Rd. 194, Mississippi Road. The road will dip back down into Mississippi, and you will soon see the Oak Hill church on the right. The cemetery is at the rear of the church building. Go into the cemetery about mid-way and the Kendrick plot should be easily located. Other family members buried at Oak Hill who were preachers are his father, Allen Kendrick and his brothers, Dr. Carroll Kendrick and Mansel Kendrick.
